美 國 營 養 學 會 (The American Dietetic Association )的 立 場 是 素 食 對 人 體 比 較 健 康 ， 而 且 如 果 適 當 的 安 排 ， 素 食 可 供 給 人 體足 夠 的 營 養 。 (註 )


人 體 所 需 要 的 營 養 素 ， 一 般 可 分 為 五 大 類 ：

　
一 ． 蛋 白 質 蛋 白 質 分 解 後 ， 成 為 氨 基 酸 ， 才 能 ｫ 人 體 吸 收 和 利 用 。 一 般 的植 物 性 食 物 ， 含 有 極 豐 富 的 蛋 白 質 ， 只 要 不 偏 食 ， 並 且 攝 取足 夠 的 熱 量 ， 則 素 食 者 應 可 得 到 人 體 所 需 要 的 主 要 氨 基 酸 ( Essential amino acid ) 和 次 要 氨 基 酸 ( Nonessential amino acid ) 。
全麥 和 全 穀 類 、 莢 果類 、 蔬 菜 類 、 種 子 類 以 及 核 彆 類 等 等 ， 都 含 有 極 豐 富 的 蛋 白 質 ， 而 其 中 ，黃 飪 (soy bean) 的 蛋 白 質 是 非 常 完 整 ， 品 質 也 非 常 優 秀 ， 是 素 食 者 不 可 或 缺 的 食 品 。

肉 食者 的 蛋 白 質 來 源， 往 往 也 含 有 大 量 的 飽 和 脂 肪 和 膽 固 醇 ， 但 植 物 性 蛋 白 質 卻 沒 有 這 種 缺 點 。 素 食 者 一 般 蛋 白 質 的 攝 取量 比 肉 食者少 ， 因 此 可 讓 更 多 的 鈣 質 留 在 我 們 的 體 內 ， 而 且 讓 腎 贓 有 問 題 的 人 ， 發 揮 更 好 的 腎 贓 功 能 。

二 ． 醣 類 植 物 性 食 物 有 相 當 足 夠 的 醣 類 ，素 食 者 不 會 有 醣 類 不 足 的 憂 慮 ， 而 且 植 物 性 醣 類 往 往 睿 纖 維 素 混 在 一 起 ， 因 此 素 食 者 容 易 得 到 足 夠 的 玹 維 。 近 幾 年 來 ， 纖 維 素對 身 體 的 功 用 ， 已 在 醫 學 界 引 起 極 大 的 注 意 。 人 體 因 纖 維 的 不 足 ， 可 引 お 很 多種 的 慢 性 疾 病 ， 例 如 糖 尿 病 ， 以 及 多 種 癌 。 纖 維 素也 有 壓 低 血 中 膽 固 醇 的 功 用 。

三 ． 脂 肪 脂 肪 可 分 為 飽 和 脂 肪 ( Saturated fat )和 不 飽 和 脂 肪 ( Unsaturated fat )兩 種 。 飽 和 脂 肪 和 膽 固 醇是 漠唅 疾 病 和 血 管 毛 病 的 主 兇 。 而 飽 和 脂 肪 和 膽 固 醇主 要 是 含 於 肉 類 裡 。 植 物 性 脂 肪 大 多 是 不 飽 和 眲 肪 ， 是 我 們 人 體 攝 取 脂 肪 的 好 來 源 。

四 ． 礦 物 質 鈣 質 ， 鐵 質 等 等 礦 物 質 存 在 於 各 種 眵 物 中 。 值 得 一 提 的 是 深 綠 色 蔬 菜 中 ， 含 有 極 高 腔 鈣 質 ， 是 素 食 者 不 可 忽 略 的 。

五 ． 維 生 素 植 物 食 品 中 ， 不 乏 各 種 維 生 素 ， 素 食 者 應 該 很 容 易 得 到 各 種 維 生 素 ， 唯 獨 維 生 素 B - 12 在 醫 學 界 ， 尚 有 一 些 爭 論 。 人 體 所 需 要 維 生 素 B - 12的 量 極 微 少 ， 只 要 吃 一 顆 維 他 命 丸 便 可 解 決 。 美 國 人 早 餐 常 吃 的 穀 類 製 品 ( Cereal ) 也 常 加 有 此 種 維 生 素。


以 上 的 分 析 ， 只 是 針 對 純 素 食 者 ( Vegan ) 而 言 。如 果 我 們 也 吃 牛 奶 及 其 製 品 (Lacto-vegetarian )， 則在 目 前 的 市 場 上 ， 就 可 增 加 很 多 很 多 的 食 品 ， 營 養 上 更 是 毫 無 問 題 。 如 果 也 吃 蛋 及 蛋 製 品 ( Lacto-ovovegetarian) ，在 營 養上 ， 那 就 更 不 需 要 擔 心 了。

雖 然 素 食 對 我 們 的 身 體 ， 幾 乎 有 百 益 而 無 一 害 ㄛ 但 在 日 常 生 活 中 亦 應 注 意 下 列 事 項 ：

　
1． 盡 量 不 要 食 用 營 養 價 值 低 的 食 物 ， 例 如 甜 點 ，高 油 質 食 品 。


2． 盡 量 採 用 全 穀 類 ( Whole grain ) 食 物 ， 而 少 用 儕 製 品 。 就 是 多 用 糙 米 或 全 穀麵 包 ， 而 少 吃 白 米 飯 或 白 麵 包 。


3． 盡 量 輪 流 食 用 各 種 蔬 菜 和 水 果 ， 不 要 局 限 於 少 數 的 蔬 果 ， 如 此 才 容 易 得 到 平 均 的 營 養 ， 也 較 容 易 得 到我 們 身 體 所 需 要 的 所 有養 分 。


4． 如 果 食 用 牛 奶 及 其 製 品 ， 應 選 用 低 脂 肪 或 脫 脂 牛 奶 及 其 製 品 。


5． 如 果 食 用 雞 蛋 ， 一 週 內 最 好 不 要 吃 超 過 3~ 4 個 蛋 ，否 則 在 身 體 上 ， 就 會 有 肉 食 者 的 缺 點 出 現。

Tasik Melati
Located just 8 km north of Kangar, this shallow lake provides a respite for boating, picnics and relaxing walks. More than 150 sandbar islands dot the lake and can be reached by rowing boat or sampan. Elevated walkways across the lake provide vantage and rest points.




Snake and Reptile Farm
Surrounded by the Bukit Bintang Forest Reserve near Sungai Batu Pahat, 10 kilometers north of Kangar, is the Snake and Reptile Farm. The Snake Farm is a research facility set up to develop serums for snakebites. Housing more than 20 species of snakes as well as crocodiles and monitor lizards, it is the only snake farm in Malaysia. The farm has natural open air enclosures as well as closed exhibits. Handlers will assist the public to take photographs with safe snakes.





Bukit Ayer and Recreational Park
Just a few kilometers north of the Golf Club and the Snake and Reptile Farm is the Bukit Air Recreational Park. Cool streams meander through rich tropical forest and waterfalls cascade into rocky pools. Well defined paths allow easy access through the park where the sights and sounds of tropical rainforest await visitors. An excellent location for picnics, the park also provides a camping ground, car parking facilities and all the basic amenities.




Gua Kelam
The peaceful town of Kaki Bukit is home to Gua Kelam, literally translated as the 'Dark Caves'. The 370- meter long cave passage is well-lighted and is believed to have been hollowed out from the limestone massif by an underground stream over many eons. A wooden walkway suspended along the entire length of the cave allows visitors to view the magnificent stalagmite and stalagmite formations. The original cave was enlarged in 1935 by a resident Englishman to serve as a route for the transportation of tin ore. It is now a convenient way for local folk travelling on motor cycles to get from Kaki Bukit to the Wan Tangga Valley and vice versa.



Shopping Paradise--->Padang Besar
Padang Besar is a bustling border town with a profusion of colours, sights and sounds. It is also a major stopover along the rail route between Singapore, Malaysia and Thailand.

The elongated railway station is manned by Malaysian officials at one end and their Thai counterparts at the other end.

Padang Besar is a bargain hunters' paradise and boasts duty free shops and a variety of produce, souvenirs and artifacts that bear testimony to the rich cultural legacy of the state.

The U.S. flag has undergone many changes since the first official flag of 1777. On June 14, 1777, the Continental Congress passed the first Flag Act, which said that the flag would be made up of thirteen alternating red and white stripes and thirteen white stars on a blue field. Stars have been added to the flag as new states join the union. Currently, the flag contains 50 stars.


The national flag of the United States of America (the American flag) consists of thirteen equal horizontal stripes of red (top and bottom) alternating with white, with a blue rectangle in the canton bearing fifty small, white, five-pointed stars arranged in nine offset horizontal rows of 6 stars (top and bottom) alternating with rows of five stars. The fifty stars on the flag represent the 50 states and the 13 stripes represent the original 13 colonies that rebelled against the British monarchy and became the first states in the Union.[1] Nicknames for the flag include the Stars and Stripes, Old Glory,[2] and The Star-Spangled Banner (also the name of the national anthem).
